The first step in creating a hand painted contact lens is to decide on a design. After discussing requirements, an image is created on the computer to anticipate the visual effect that will be achieved.
While the design is being decided upon, the client will visit our practice to have a contact lens fitting. This takes about forty minutes, and involves trying different sized lenses in the eye to find which one will most suit the desired effect.
After a successful fitting and final design approval, the next step is to have the lens hand painted. This is a similar process to using watercolours with a minute brush. The lenses are then sterilised.
